What is the USGBC?

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) was founded in 1993 by Rick Fedrizzi, David Gottfried and Mike Italiano with the mission to promote sustainability in the building and construction industy. It currently boasts 76 chapters, 13,000 member companies and organizations, and more than 181,000 professionals who hold LEED credentials. As of April 2014, three billion square feet of green construction space has earned LEED® certification around the globe, and more than 4.3 million people live and work in LEED buildings (source: www.usgbc.org).

What is LEED?

LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. To receive LEED certification, building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. Prerequisites and credits differ for each rating system, and teams choose the best fit for their project (source: www.usgbc.org).
